UL Becomes Authorized Test Laboratory for Wi-Fi Alliance®
NORTHBROOK, Ill., May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science leader, has successfully completed the Wi-Fi Alliance® process to become an independent Authorized Test Lab (ATL), accredited to perform certification testing services for a global roster of Wi-Fi Alliance members.
Effective immediately, UL can perform the baseline tests for Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ ac, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ n, and Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ WPA2™ Protected Management Frames. The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED program assures tested and proven interoperability among Wi-Fi® devices. This certification gives users confidence that Wi-Fi products bearing the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED logo have passed rigorous interoperability certification requirements. UL is currently working on completing Wi-Fi certification for the entire Wi-Fi Alliance Test Suite by the end of 2014.
By becoming a Wi-Fi Alliance ATL, UL customers no longer have to go to multiple labs for performance, conformance and interoperability. Additionally this accreditation is a natural extension of UL's established leadership in the 60 GHz testing space through the WiGig Alliance, which merged with Wi-Fi Alliance in early 2013. UL has worked closely with equipment manufacturers in regard to the development and validation of the WiGig (60 GHz) test plan for more than five years and hosted several related Plugfest events sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association.
"Successfully completing this Wi-Fi Alliance authorization is an essential element as it relates to our strategy for providing the wireless industry with a single source testing solution," said Mike Kuo, North American Regional General Manager for UL's Consumer Technology Division. "UL is already recognized as a leader in OTA, Bluetooth, Wireless Charging, SAR and RF performance and conformance testing."
In addition to this recent authorization, UL has been an Authorized Test Lab for the WirelessHD Consortium since 2009 and a contributing member of the WiGig Alliance since 2011.Company executives from UL also participate in Wi-Fi Alliance's Health Care Marketing Task Group and CSEP's (Consortium for SEP 2 Interoperability) Technical and Marketing Groups.
