The Danish Intelligent Energy Alliance Joins the Global Smart Grid Federation
WASHINGTON, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Global Smart Grid Federation (GSGF), an international collaborative effort among national and regional smart grid associations, today announced that The Danish Intelligent Energy Alliance (DIEA) has joined the Federation. DIEA, an initiative of the Danish Energy Association (DEA), was created to support the industrial foundation for a smart grid-based society.
"Denmark has a long history of creativity and innovation in the area of energy production and distribution. We are pleased that they will be bringing that tradition to the Global Smart Grid Federation," said Guido Bartels, GSGF Chairman. "Denmark has already embarked on a number of exciting and unique smart grid projects. The lessons learned from these current and future activities will greatly enhance our knowledge and make GSGF an even more effective advocate for transforming the world's electricity systems."
"The Danish Intelligent Energy Alliance is pleased to be joining the Global Smart Grid Federation," said Morten Baadsgaard Trolle, Managing Director of Intelligent Energy at the DEA. "Smart Grid is a clash between energy and information technologies. It will be a major task to fuse energy with advancing technologies in order to ensure the effective conversion to an intelligent energy system. The key to success is international cooperation. In joining the GSGF we have taken the first steps on the path to create a common language for Smart Grid that everyone can understand and act upon."
"Smart grid is one of five critical pillars in my vision for a long-term economic sustainability plan," said Jeremy Rifkin, author of the New York Times best-selling book, "The Third Industrial Revolution: How Lateral Power is Transforming Energy, the Economy, and the World." An advisor to the European Union and to heads of state around the world, Mr. Rifkin added, "I commend the Global Smart Grid Federation for being a powerful voice on a topic of such global significance."
The DIEA is the eleventh member of the GSGF, joining EDSO for Smart Grids (EU), GridWise Alliance (U.S.), India Smart Grid Forum, Israel Smart Energy Association, Japan Smart Community Alliance, Korea Smart Grid Association, Smart Grid Australia, Smart Grid Canada, Smart Grid GB (Great Britain), and Smart Grid Ireland. Collectively, the GSGF members organizations represent smart grid interests in more than 25 countries.
