GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Zondervan's bestselling The Story, NIV: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People was honored with a 2012 Audie Award at a ceremony in New York last night. The Audie Awards, hosted by the Audio Publishers Association, are the most prestigious honor in the audio book industry, recognizing the audio books that made the greatest impact over the past year. Nominees are judged on a variety of criteria, including marketing campaign excellence, sales achievement and consumer acceptance. To date, The Story has sold more than 500,000 units worldwide in all formats. It is among Zondervan's fastest-selling new Bibles, outselling perennial bestsellers.
The Story won the Audie Award in the Inspirational/Faith-Based Non-Fiction category. This marks the sixth Audie Award Zondervan has earned since 2007, when it took home the top honor of Audio Book of the Year for Inspired By…The Bible Experience.
Recorded in 31 chapters, The Story is a concise, abridged chronology of the Bible that takes the listener through an unfolding progression of vital Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. Using the clear, accessible text of the NIV Bible and featuring multiple voices, professional narration, music and sound effects, it allows the stories, poems, and teachings of the Bible to read like a novel.
Originally released in printed form in 2011, The Story's popularity has quickly grown, with more than 2,000 churches around the world participating in The Story's 31-week sermon series. The Story features age-appropriate versions for five age groups and an accompanying curriculum, and is being used in small groups, Sunday schools and youth ministries, as well as at Christian colleges, military bases and wherever Bible engagement is a priority.
"We continue to be amazed at the reception The Story has received from churches, ministries, schools and individuals all across the country and throughout the world, and we are honored to receive this award for a project we are so proud of," said Chip Brown, Zondervan's senior vice president and publisher of Bibles. "The Story has truly started a worldwide church movement that is growing at a rapid rate. Our hope is it will continue to impact people's hearts and minds and bring God's Word to life in a way they've never experienced before."
