HARRISBURG, Pa., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Zoetic Global, a U.S. based project development firm, attended the 100th Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show showcasing commercial aquaponics systems for sustainable food production in restaurants and the food services industry.
The aquaponics installation featured a commercial aquaponics system commissioned by the JDK Group, a premier catering and events company, designed for in-house production of microgreens, fresh water fish and prawn. The aquaponics system will grow food organically, year-round, with 90% less water and up to 30 times the production per square foot compared to traditional agriculture.
"Partnering with JDK is a great opportunity to showcase an industry-changing approach to local food," says Jerome Ringo, chairman and CEO of Zoetic Global. "This kind of solution will educate, preserve, and enhance sustainable living for generations to come."
Attracting over 200,000 attendees, the Zoetic installation also featured an innovative partnership with the School to Table™ initiative in which teams of high school student apprentices from regional schools learn small business and science in aquaponics. School to Table™ apprentices ran tours and educated visitors on the aquaponic produce they helped to grow.
"We have a commitment to bring our clients the freshest and most local food that we can get," says Jen Delay, CEO of the JDK Group. "We are partnered with Zoetic and with School to Table to bring aquaponics into the catering and restaurant field and working with local schools in STEM programs. From the moment I saw aquaponics in action, I knew it was a match made in heaven."
Among the visitors were Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, PA Representative Marguerite Quinn and Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Hannah Smith-Brubaker, as well as several other officials, educators, farmers and commercial food producers.
Pennsylvania State Representative Patty Kim called the School to Table™ model developed around Zoetic Aquaponics systems "the most exciting workforce development program I have seen."
Zoetic Aquaponics systems combine conventional aquaculture (raising fish and other aquatic animals in tanks) and hydroponics (producing plants in water rather than soil) into a symbiotic system. The 'zero discharge' system recycles all water, with plants using fish waste as fertilizer, filtering and returning clean water to the fish.
Aquaponics offers flexibility to restaurants and catering businesses in terms of solving problems associated with sourcing stable supplies of vegetables and high-end produce. In an industry in which hyper localized sourced products are increasingly attractive, aquaponics systems provide a solution.
Zoetic Global is a project development firm deploying life-sustaining technology solutions in Energy, Water and Food Security. Zoetic's Precision Aquaponics™ product line features customizable controlled environment systems capable of growing produce, year-round, and twenty times the yield per square foot over traditional methods.
