SAN FRANCISCO, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Zipongo, Eating Well Made Simple, announced the appointment of Kevin Smith as the company's Vice President of Sales for the healthcare payer and provider market.
The addition of Smith, a veteran of multiple high-growth technology startups, strengthens Zipongo's strategic move into chronic disease management, with a focus on helping commercial health insurers and health plans to manage clinical risk across their patient populations.
"I am thrilled to be joining Zipongo, a company I have long admired for its ability to transform the nutritional science into a digital platform with broad appeal, and I look forward to helping to grow its base of health plan customers," said Smith. "Health plans are under immense financial pressure to improve the health of their members with chronic disease, yet the typical approaches have failed to produce long-term improvement in outcomes. Zipongo provides a low-cost path to drive sustainable improvements in their members' health by gradually transforming the one thing studies have shown to have the greatest impact on health—what and how they eat."
Smith's primary expertise is in scaling sales operations to meet growing demand for services. He was previously vice president of sales for Welltok, a key Zipongo partner in the wellness space, where he also focused on the health plan market. Before that, he held the same position with Predilytics, a provider of advanced analytic solutions to health plans and medical providers that was acquired by Welltok in 2015. Previous to that, Smith led the sales and business development teams at Remedy Informatics, a developer of enterprise informatics software, driving year-over-year sales growth of 150 percent and building a global channel for the healthcare and life science markets. Remedy was acquired by Liaison Technologies in 2014.
"Kevin brings two decades' worth of leadership and expertise in high-growth, venture-backed companies including some of the most successful startups in the healthcare and analytics space," said Scott Smith, Zipongo's Senior Vice President of Revenue. "He will be a critical asset in expanding our platform offering for health plans and providers."
Zipongo offers recipe, food shopping and restaurant recommendations that are personalized to each user's food preferences, health status, health goals and genetic makeup. Zipongo's expanding food benefits offerings include recipe recommendations, customized grocery lists, grocery delivery, restaurant ordering support and digital nutrition coaching.
Zipongo envisions a future where employers deploy food as medicine to improve the overall health of the workforce and help rein in health costs. Zipongo's current and future products are backed by the latest data science to track and report success metrics to customers.
