Zielsdorff Earns SAE International's SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award
WARRENDALE, Pa., May 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- George Zielsdorff, retired Vice President U-2 and F-117 Programs, Lockheed Martin, was honored with the 2009 SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award during the SAE 2009 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, held last fall in Seattle, Wash.
Established in 1992, the SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award honors an individual at the corporate official level for outstanding contributions to the field of aerospace engineering through his/her leadership skills. It recognizes an individual who has applied their leadership skills in aerospace engineering to make contributions leading to great positive impact on the aerospace community. Recognition may be for a singular accomplishment or lifetime achievement.
During his time with Lockheed Martin, Zielsdorff served in a number of leadership roles including director of UAVs, director of the JASSM and DarkStar programs and chief engineer of the F-117 Stealth Fighter Program.
Prior to joining Lockheed Martin, he served for more than 29 years in the U.S. Air Force (USAF) in many program management and technical leadership roles. Early in his career, Zielsdorff published several papers in the subject area of fracture mechanics and was well known as a technical contributor in that field.
He provided the USAF technical leadership for the C-141A Durability and Damage Tolerance Assessment leading to the USAF Scientific Advisory Board recommendation to proceed with the "stretch" of the C-141 fleet of aircraft to the C-141B configuration. Zielsdorff was the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his USAF and Lockheed Martin careers.
Zielsdorff received his graduate and undergraduate degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
