MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ziauddin Yousafzai, educator and human rights activist, will be the keynote speaker at Walden University's 55th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Ziauddin Yousafzai inspired his daughter, Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Nobel Laureate, to raise her voice to promote every child's right to an education. He hails from Pakistan's Swat Valley where, facing great personal risk and grave political violence, he peacefully resisted the Taliban's efforts to shut down schools and kept his own school open.
Yousafzai is the cofounder and chairman of the board for the Malala Fund. He also serves as the United Nations special advisor on global education and as an educational attache to the Consulate General of Pakistan in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
"Ziauddin Yousafzai is a true visionary who views education as critical for every boy and girl. We look forward to him sharing his remarkable story with our graduates and guests as Walden's commencement speaker," said Jonathan Kaplan, president of Walden.
The Walden University community gathers to honor its graduating students twice a year at summer and winter commencement ceremonies. The 2016 winter commencement ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Eastern time on January 30 at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida. The ceremony and address can be viewed live via webcast at www.WaldenU.edu.
