BEIJING, Nov. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The 2011 APEC China Day was successfully held at Keoni Auditorium, East-West Center on Nov. 8th, 2011. As part of the U.S. 2011 APEC Series activities, the event was hosted by the University of Hawaii and East-West Center, and organized by the Department of Economics, UHM. Held on the eve of the 2011 APEC Leaders Informal Meeting, the speech was an effort to further explore the new ways of APEC development and facilitate the in-depth cooperation among APEC members including China and the US.
Professor Konan, the Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Hawaii kicked off the event with an opening remark, followed by an introductory speech on APEC development by Former U.S. Ambassador to APEC Lauren Moriarty. (stock code: 00082.HK), Dr. Zhang Lijun delivered the keynote speech titled "Durable Peace, Common Development and Equal Cooperation -- Working Together towards the Development and Prosperity in the Asia-Pacific Region within the Framework of APEC". Dr. Zhang's speech focused on the theme of APEC this year as "Close Linkage among the Regional Economies", and elaborated on the issues which China concerns this year, China's contributions and expectations on trade and investment liberalization and business facilitation as well as multilateral trade mechanism. He also analyzed the influences of the development of regional economic organizations on China, In the Q & A section, Dr. Zhang offered his answers immediately to questions about issues such as the economic cooperation between China and Hawaii, APEC education development plan, and the stance and measures China and APEC should take under the current economic situation.
Dr. Zhang's keynote speech gained high attention and consent from the officials, experts and scholars present at the event. His speech furthered the audience's understanding of the roles APEC plays in the Asia-Pacific economic cooperation and China's great contributions in APEC's development; at the same time, his speech lent more light on the prospect of development between China and the U.S. through complementary cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win strategy.
