TREVOSE, Pa., May 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As high lead levels in Pittsburgh's city water have prompted officials there to declare a "public health crisis," ZeroWater is stepping in to assist with the most recent lead findings. The manufacturer of the five-stage filtration system that removes virtually all (99.6%) Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) will distribute its 10-cup filtration pitchers and replacement filters to the city of Pittsburgh. The distribution began last week, with expectant mothers and families with children less than six years old being given first priority.
This latest Pittsburgh initiative continues ZeroWater's history of helping cities with lead concerns. Such efforts began back in late 2015 when the Flint, Mich. water crisis unfolded. To date, the company has donated over $300,000 worth of filters and pitchers to the city of Flint to help with the ongoing situation. It followed up those efforts with assistance to Milwaukee, Wisconsin as well as other cities across the United States.
Zerowater pitchers are NSF certified to reduce lead and chromium 6 as well as other heavy metals. ZeroWater is the obvious water filtration manufacturer to take action when such crises arise. "At ZeroWater, we believe kids deserve lead-free drinking water," explains Doug Kellam, CEO of ZeroWater. "Lead in drinking water is a major health concern, and it can occur anywhere, anytime, without residents even knowing it. With young children being especially susceptible to its health risks, we feel it is our duty to prevent long-term damage to our future generation."
The office of Pittsburgh mayor, William Peduto, indicates that approximately 6,000 people have requested the filters so far, and among that group 1,600 have identified themselves as expectant mothers or with young children. ZeroWater's filters will be distributed through the city as wells as other locations including fire stations throughout the city. During phase two of the distribution, ZeroWater is working directly with city officials to hand out filters to federally funded health clinics, early childhood centers, day care centers and other facilities with prioritized clientele.
The 10-cup pitcher that is being given to city residents enables the enjoyment of pure-tasting water with the latest filter technology. The ZeroWater filtration system combines five sophisticated technologies that work together to remove virtually all dissolved solids from tap water, delivering great tasting water that is certified by the NSF to reduce lead.
