Zerofootprint Partners With UN Habitat
International Campaign Intends to Help Cities Manage Explosive Urban Growth Sustainably
TORONTO and RIO DE JANEIRO, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- (World Urban Forum 5) -- Zerofootprint, a leading organization in the global fight against climate change, today announced it is one of the first seven partners chosen to join the United Nation-Habitat's World Urban Campaign (WUC).
"Zerofootprint is honoured to have been selected to be a partner to this important UN initiative," said CEO, Dr. Ron Dembo. "With more than 50 percent of the world's population now living in cities, we are all faced with the challenge of making our growing urban centres both sustainable and livable."
Partners to the WUC include Siemens and Siemens Stiftung, Veolia, China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce (CRECC), Pressgroup Holdings Europe SA, ARCADIS, Institute d'amenagement et D'Urbanism and Zerofootprint.
The Campaign will promote a positive vision for sustainable urbanization. That vision will be developed through consultation with cities, governments and Habitat partners like Zerofootprint.
The Campaign will promote inclusive urban development while providing a set of guiding principles on how to improve cities. Without coherent policies, tools and planning in developing nations, billions of people are threatened with sub-standard living conditions. Zerofootprint has committed to provide the Campaign with software, benchmarking services and other support.
The campaign's steering committee includes representatives from a number of governments, NGOs and businesses, including Dr. Ron Dembo. Zerofootprint and the UN-Habitat joined forces to announce the winners of the ZEROprize Re-Skinning Awards at World Urban Forum 5 on March 24th. Those awards celebrate the architects and engineers who are making our cities more sustainable. See: www.thezeroprize.org.
