SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ZendCon 2014 -- Zend, the PHP Company, today announced new product and pattern offerings, including the latest version of Zend Server, equipping more companies with the agility, scale and reach necessary to deliver innovative, forward-looking applications. Zend Server 8 and Zend's three new Continuous Delivery patterns arm developers with the debugging and automation tools to write and deliver quality code more quickly – from the beginning.
"Our latest Zend Server, with application-specific Z-Ray capabilities, 'left-shifts' your quality checkpoints to be earlier in the app development lifecycle," said Andi Gutmans, CEO and Co-founder, Zend. "This quality focus is the first important step in the Continuous Delivery process, ensuring improved code, fewer production issues and better application quality in the end. Z-Ray is just one way Zend is committed to application delivery excellence. In fact, Zend is also announcing three new patterns that enable more companies to reap the agility and quality-related benefits of Continuous Delivery, turning the application delivery process into a competitive, strategic advantage."
Zend Server 8 with New Z-Ray Capabilities
Zend is unveiling the developer-centric Zend Server 8, the company's newest integrated application platform for mobile and web applications. This latest version includes new Z-Ray insight into several popular applications as well as introducing Z-Ray Live!, which broadens the scope and reach of Z-Ray to include mobile and web services API debugging. Z-Ray gives real-time, in-context visibility inside apps, showing exactly what happens to construct each page. The result: Developers catch PHP code errors early, allowing them to inspect, debug and optimize their pages early in the development process, long before production.
Key Features and Benefits of Zend Server 8:
- Z-Ray's real-time vision inside PHP requests has been extended to include specific detailed data for several common applications and frameworks including Magento, WordPress, Drupal, Zend Framework, Symfony, and IBM i.
- Z-Ray's extensibility API allows developers to add new functionality to Z-Ray, displaying the data they care about.
- Z-Ray Live! provides the visibility of Z-Ray for requests coming from mobile and web services API calls, letting developers see into the server-side execution of mobile app requests.
- URL Insight identifies the worst-performing pages in an application and provides Z-Ray insight into the causes.
- New platform support includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, PHP 5.6, and Linux running on IBM Power8.
"Z-Ray has proved to boost development productivity by providing developers immediate access to database queries, memory usage, request execution details and more. However, our customers told us they now needed to get this debugging info for their mobile applications," said Zeev Suraski, CTO and Co-founder, Zend. "Z-Ray Live!'s new X-Ray vision offers 'as-it-happens' insight into each request coming from native mobile apps or via web services API calls. This real-time server-side error-catching and debugging helps developers stay one step ahead in the mobile app development process."
Zend Server 8 will be generally available in December 2014.

New Continuous Delivery Integrations for Docker, Puppet, and Bamboo
Continuous Delivery, a collaborative, iterative approach that automates all steps of moving an application from development to production, is a technology and business "must" as companies work to meet increased customer demand for mobile, cloud and web applications. Zend Server works seamlessly with DevOps tools, such as Jenkins and Chef, to implement Continuous Delivery best practices for developing and running PHP applications. From Continuous Integration to Infrastructure Automation, Release Automation to Monitoring & Management, Zend Server supports all the most popular ways to deliver apps to production faster and more iteratively.
Zend is extending its Continuous Delivery ecosystem by introducing three new patterns: Docker, Puppet and Bamboo. These patterns, including plug-ins and best practices for the application delivery cycle, are contained within Zend's Blueprint for Continuous Delivery, a solution built on the Zend Server platform. The new patterns will allow more businesses to easily adopt Continuous Delivery practices to accelerate the application delivery process.
- Zend Pattern for Infrastructure Management with Docker enables you to quickly assemble applications from components, eliminating conflict between development, QA and production environments. This means you can run the same app, unchanged, on laptops, data center VMs, and any cloud. By using the Zend Server pattern for Docker you can easily provision containers with your PHP application infrastructure, shortening development cycles and increasing testing speed.
- Zend Pattern for Infrastructure Automation with Puppet allows you to easily automate the provisioning of physical and virtual machines, early-stage code development, testing, production release and updates. This enables you to script, automate and manage your PHP application infrastructure as code, eliminating error potential in the process. This infrastructure automation is an integral piece to establishing repeatability, consistency and stability.
- Zend Pattern for Continuous Integration with Bamboo offers new options for IT development shops that want to significantly ramp up their delivery speed. Continuous Integration involves performing tests whenever new code is generated, ensuring new changes properly integrate into the existing code base. Continuous Integration with Bamboo and Zend Server allows you to automate the testing of code packaging and deployment onto infrastructure that should be identical to production, each time new code is generated or at specific intervals. The result is an automated build and test process providing assurance that code is always ready for deployment.
