YouTube's new roomies Eat24: There goes the neighborhood
How Eat24 bootstrapped their way into Silicon Valley
SAN FRANCISCO, April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Eat24.com has just announced their move to a larger office space to house their fast growing staff and expanding business. Eat24's new Silicon Valley headquarters neighboring the YouTube campus is more than double the size of their previous location, allowing more space to manage their network of 20,000 restaurants in over 1,000 cities nationwide.
Eat24 has seen their moderate staff grow from a small core team of 10 to over 200. The huge increase in orders over the last year, especially from mobile users, required a fast recruitment of personnel to maintain the top notch customer service for which the company is best known. "We started with a small office and did what we could with the space there," says co-founder Nadav Sharon. "Eventually we ran out of walls to knock down, and creating a second story with lofted hammock desks turned out to be a bad idea."
Despite a fiercely competitive rental market, the Eat24 founders were able to secure a larger office space in a neighborhood with some of Silicon Valley's biggest tech companies. Chalk it up to hard work and a little creative thinking. Launched in 2008 during the economic downtown and accepting exactly $0 in VC funding to date, the company has always done things a bit differently. So far, it's working. Now they have the square footage to show for it. "Sure, our new office is across from a cemetery," Nadav continues, "but at least the neighbors are really quiet."
When the last box of bacon-scented company letterhead was unpacked, Eat24 employees celebrated with an intimate gathering in the office parking lot 25 feet from all entrances and operable windows. A few minutes later, the hungry staff took a test drive of the new Eat24 iPad app.
