You'd Better Not Pout! Booz Allen Supports NORAD to Track Santa's Approach This Year
Program Helps Excited Children Interact and Learn Online
MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. But who's keeping an eye on Santa?
For 55 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and its predecessor organization have tracked the path of Santa Claus as he travels from the North Pole throughout the world on Christmas Eve to pinpoint his location for children. Since 2007, Booz Allen Hamilton has supported that effort, which begins today for the 2010 season, through assistance with the program's interactive Web site, management of a social media campaign and employee volunteer service on Christmas Eve.
Starting today, The NORAD Tracks Santa website, www.noradsanta.org, features games and activities that change daily during the holidays. The Web site is available in seven languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Chinese. On Dec. 24, the Web site will stream videos from cities along Santa's journey, captured by NORAD "Santa Cams."
For 2010, children can track Santa through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and TroopTube. Links to all of these tools, and other information about Booz Allen's charitable giving during the holidays are at www.boozallen.com/santa.
On Christmas Eve, Booz Allen employees will volunteer to answer phones and answer email as children worldwide turn wide eyes to the sky in anticipation of Santa's arrival in their town. Santa trackers will begin answering phones and replying to e-mail at 2:00 a.m. MST (4:00 a.m. EST) on Dec. 24 through 3 a.m. MST (5 a.m. EST) Dec. 25. During that time, children can call the NTS toll-free number 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) or send an e-mail to [email protected].
"NORAD Tracks Santa is more than just a holiday classic that brings joy to children. Through today's fun and interactive Web site, children can learn about tracking technology and science concepts that can inspire them to dream higher than the stars for their own future," said Joe Suarez, Booz Allen Executive Advisor, Community Partnerships and Philanthropy. "Studies show that U.S. colleges and universities are only graduating about 9,000 computer science students a year, and this program is one simple way to inspire more young people to answer the call for careers in technology fields."
Additionally, during the holiday season, Booz Allen employees will contribute to nonprofit organizations around the nation. The Toys for Tots campaign is a major focus, during which Booz Allen will match employee monetary donations via an employee Web page, and will encourage employees to donate new, unwrapped toys at sites across the firm's network of offices and client sites. The company also has pledged to generate visibility for the Toys for Tots campaign by providing links to public donation pages and posting video messages from employees who have served our country as Marines.
