YouCaring Appoints Maly Ly as Chief Marketing Officer
SAN FRANCISCO, June 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- YouCaring, the world's trusted leader in free crowdfunding for personal, medical, and charitable causes, today announced that Maly Ly has joined the company as Chief Marketing Officer, reporting to CEO Dan Saper. Based in San Francisco, Maly will lead YouCaring's global marketing organization and scale brand awareness and revenue during a period of rapid growth for the company.
A recipient of Direct Marketing News' Hall of Femme Award, Maly is a marketing and brand expert with over 16 years of experience across interactive entertainment, consumer products, Internet, and technology companies, most recently at Eventbrite and Sojern. At Eventbrite, she partnered with CEO Julia Hartz to successfully align the company around a new global vision, strategy, and operational plan to achieve their next stage of growth. As Vice President of Global Marketing at Sojern, Maly orchestrated Sojern's positioning to the global performance marketing leader in travel, helping drive over $3 billion in bookings for clients including Virgin Airlines, JetBlue, American Express, Marriott, Starwood, and Hertz. Prior to Sojern, she served as the first Head of Marketing at AdRoll, where she quickly established the company as the world's most widely used retargeting platform and the Inc. 500 #1 fastest growing marketing company.
Early in her career, Maly managed product development, consumer engagement, brand partnerships, and marketing, at renowned interactive entertainment and consumer products companies including Lucasfilm (acquired by Disney), Nintendo, Ubisoft, and Eidos (acquired by Square Enix). She has brought beloved brands such as Star Wars, Tomb Raider, and Nintendo Wii to millions of people around the world.
A first generation immigrant, Maly exemplifies the American Dream. Her family escaped as asylum refugees from war-torn Cambodia and endured several years of forced labor in the United States before being rescued. She later directed and grew Striving for Excellence, a City of Berkeley Award-winning program for at-risk youth, before graduating from the University of California at Berkeley.
"It was the compassion and generosity of strangers who saved my family when we first arrived in the US," said Maly. "YouCaring's mission to help people help each other greatly resonated with me. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a global community of giving. I'm thrilled to be joining at an exciting stage of growth to lead the company in reaching more people facing hardship."
"Maly is exactly who we've been looking for," said Dan Saper, CEO of YouCaring. "She brings deep experience driving brand awareness and positioning for high-growth startups and top consumer brands. But above all, she's a tremendous person and cultural fit. I'm very excited to have Maly on the team as we work to take YouCaring to new heights."
Maly joins YouCaring at a time when more Americans are turning to crowdfunding for financial support as healthcare costs continue to increase. YouCaring has helped people raise over $800 million for critical personal, medical, and charitable causes. The company increased its team by 40% in 2016. In March, YouCaring acquired GiveForward, another pioneer in the crowdfunding space, to further expand its fundraising and donor reach.
