Yingli Joins Earth Hour 2015 to Fight Air Pollution in China
"Power Parks" energized by solar PV drive environmental awareness, action in China
BAODING, China, March 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (NYSE: YGE) ("Yingli Green Energy" or the "Company"), one of the world's leading solar panel manufacturers, known as "Yingli Solar," today announced that it will participate in Earth Hour 2015, a global campaign for the environment led by the World Wide Fund for Nature ("WWF"). As one of the prestigious business partners of Earth Hour 2015 (the "Events") in China, the Company has donated four solar-powered "Power Parks" to WWF for the Events in Shanghai. The Events will begin on March 28, 2015 at 8:30 p.m. (Beijing time) in Jing'An Park and the Redtown International Culture and Arts Community.
In response to the increasingly urgent challenges with air pollution, smog, and haze, "Renew Your Sky" is the theme of the Events in China. Fully equipped with Yingli Solar's off-grid solar power systems, the Power Parks will provide charging stations for mobile devices, music, and outdoor lighting at the Events. They are designed to demonstrate that solar power is accessible, affordable, and ready for deployment in the fight to improve air quality across China. The Power Parks will remain in operation for one year following the Event.
"The theme of Earth Hour 2015 is 'Renew Your Sky.' We believe that renewable energy is the ultimate solution to China's local haze problem and global climate change. We are pleased to partner with Yingli again to promote the applications of renewable energy in China through Earth Hour 2015," said WWF's China Climate and Energy Program Director, Ms. Lunyan Lu. "By integrating the artistic design and solar power technology, Power Park successfully made renewable energy accessible. The ready-to-use solar energy always reminds us that we are not far away from the green future powered by renewable energy."
"Having actively participated in Earth Hour since 2009, we are honored to join the movement as an official sponsor in 2015. Our goal is to demonstrate that solar power is not only a critical tool in the fight against climate change -- it is now a mainstream energy source, ready for rapid deployment to 'Renew Your Sky' for communities in China and across the world," commented Ms. Qing Miao, Vice President of Corporate Communications of Yingli Green Energy.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held worldwide annually, aimed at encouraging individuals, communities, families and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March. The event was initiated as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it has attracted more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide.
