Yihai Group President Linda Wong Supports New Kindergarten in Uzice, Serbia
BEIJING, Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of President Xi Jinping's "One Belt, One Road" cooperation agreement, Yihai President and CEO Linda Wong traveled to Serbia leading a delegation of 23 Chinese Entrepreneurs to Central and Eastern Europe to attend the grand opening of the Yihai Mama Wong Kindergarten in the city of Užice. Yihai Group and Beijing Yihai Foundation donated $402,000 through the Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation to build the kindergarten.
The city's mayor Tihomir Petković said he is working with the Chinese Embassy to provide Chinese language instruction to the children and deepen the cultural exchange between the two countries. He noted that the kindergarten's name reflects the charitable contribution of Ms. Wong. She is known internationally for her philanthropy. During the ceremony, Chief Secretary of Serbia President Nikola Selaković thanked Ms. Wong and noted that this is the first kindergarten to be built as part of "One Belt, One Road" and expressed his appreciation to her for making Serbia stronger through education.
Ms. Wong gave gifts to the school's children including new school uniforms, an advanced intelligence robot made in China and Chinese textbooks provided by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China. The school will accommodate 120 children ages three to six years old with Chinese language classes three times a week; each class lasting for an hour. Mr. Tao Zhao, the Executive Vice President of Chinese Events and Chairman of the business school, spoke on behalf of the Chinese delegation and noted that the new kindergarten reflects an educational exchange that is part of China's commitment to "One Belt, One Road."
"It is my hope that the Yihai Mama Wong Kindergarten will provide a high-quality education to the children of Užice. My company has more than 20 years of experience creating exemplary schools in China and we are pleased to bring this expertise to Serbia. I am honored to be recognized by the people of Užice and envision a long economic and cultural exchange that will further strengthen the alliance between China and Serbia," said Ms. Wong.
She also noted that in recent years the political and economic relations between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe have been strengthened through "One Belt, One Road" including increased investment in Serbia. To underscore this the Mayor of Užice and Ms. Wong planted a tree symbolizing the two countries' commitment for a long-term collaboration.
In May 2017, China hosted the "One Belt One Road" International Cooperation Summit Forum noting that the initiative has now gone from planning to implementation. The Yihai Group will continue to champion philanthropic initiatives and economic development in Serbia as well as providing the country with access to Chinese business resources. With the visit of President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Serbia, economic and trade exchanges between the two countries have increased.
Under Linda Wong's leadership over the past 20 years Yihai Property has developed major real estate projects in China. Ms. Wong is also a philanthropist, who has been recognized globally for her work with children and educators, the elderly and the arts. Education is personally so important to her that she created a development model in her Chinese housing complexes that includes schools for the youngest members of a family and an elder college.
