Yes on Proposition 39 Unveils First Television and Radio Advertisements - Urges Voters to Vote Yes on 39 and to Stop Chrysler, General Motors, Kimberly-Clark and International Paper From Stepping All Over California
Campaign to Run Ads This Week Showcasing to Voters How Out-of-State Companies Are Stepping All Over California Taxpayers by Fighting Attempts to Close The Corporate Tax Loophole That Costs California $1 Billion in Revenues and Tens of Thousands of Jobs; Prop 39 Closes the Loophole and Forces Out-of-State Companies to Pay Their Fair Share and Create a Level Playing Field for California Companies
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Yes on Proposition 39 campaign began running television and radio ads urging voters to vote Yes on 39 and to stand up to the four out-of-state companies that are fighting attempts to close a corporate tax loophole in California that is putting California companies at a competitive disadvantage to out-of-state companies that are not paying their fair share. The ads specifically point to Chrysler, General Motors, Kimberly-Clark and International Paper, the four out-of-state companies who have been aggressively campaigning and lobbying to keep the tax loophole open. Television and radio ads can be viewed online at http://bit.ly/PQw9X5.
"When voters hear the facts about the hypocrisy of the out-of-state companies that are fighting our effort to close the corporate tax loophole – including the fact that the same companies supported closing the loophole in other states when it benefited them – support for Prop 39 increases," said Jason Kinney, strategist and spokesman for the Yes on 39 Campaign. "The bottom line is, Chrysler, GM, Kimberly-Clark and International Paper should be paying their fair share, which would level the playing field for California businesses. Closing the loophole would generation $1 billion in funds for the state and tens of thousands of jobs and we are confident that once voters hear these facts, they will stand up to these companies and vote yes on Prop 39."
Last week, the campaign released a survey showing that voter support for Proposition 39 increases when voters are informed of the fact that Chrysler, General Motors, Kimberly-Clark and International Paper are fighting to keep the billion dollar out-of-state corporate tax loophole because it gives them special advantages over California-based companies. The survey also found that after learning about the hypocritical conduct of the four companies, public favorability of the companies dropped dramatically and voters said they were significantly less likely to purchase products from the companies.
Based on these survey findings, the campaign produced a television and radio ads educating voters about why they should stand up to these four out-of-state companies and vote Yes on Proposition 39. The ads will be run first in the Chico/Redding media market as a targeted part of a larger media rollout over the next few weeks.
One television ad features an actor playing the part of an accountant who states, "(Sigh…) It's just not right. A California tax loophole gives companies a billion dollar tax break for shipping jobs out of state. These companies make millions of dollars from California state contracts and taxpayer bailouts, but they're fighting to keep their tax loophole. You know... without those taxpayer funded bailouts, these guys wouldn't even exist! Stand up for California and vote Yes on 39. Close the loophole, fund schools, and create jobs in California."
