Contestants were asked to submit a digital representation (art/Photoshop), photo, or video that showcases creative uses for old phone books, with an emphasis on benefiting the social good.
Aboagye's piece, constructed of small bits of cut-up phone books and enhanced digitally, shows a hand holding a smartphone in front of a Yellow Pages book. A quote from Alexander Graham Bell is placed below: "The inventor...looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world; he is haunted by an idea."
According to Aboagye, the piece conveys "how far we've come in communication," with "the juxtaposition of the modern smartphone that can do anything and the phone book as a relic of the past."
"Dalvin's work reminds us not only of the progress we've made," said Mark Smith, founder and CEO of Yellow Pages United, "but that the best is still yet to come."
