LONDON ELECTRO-POP TRIO TO RELEASE DEBUT EP FOR INTERSCOPE RECORDS ON FEBRUARY 3rd
BAND PERFORMS TWO NYC SHOWS ON JANUARY 26th and 27th
NEW TRACK "KING" OUT NOW
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- London electro-pop trio Years & Years have won the prestigious BBC "Sound of 2015" Poll, an annual list that has had a history of predicting chart-topping acts since 2003. Years & Years join such previous winners as Sam Smith, Adele, Ellie Goulding, HAIM, and Jessie J.
Now signed to Interscope Records in the U.S., Years & Years will release their debut EP for the label on February 3rd via digital download and digital streaming services. The trio premiered a new song called "King" earlier this week on British DJ Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show- check it out HERE. A video for the track will follow later this month.
Years & Years have also announced two live shows in New York City at Le Poisson Rouge on January 26th and at Brooklyn's Rough Trade on January 27th which is already sold out, as is their first-ever UK headlining tour, which will follow the shows in NYC. The band will also be performing at SXSW.
Formed in London, Years & Years consists of bassist Mikey Goldsworthy, keyboard player Emre Turkmen, and vocalist Olly Alexander. Olly joined the band after Mikey heard him singing in the shower during a party at his house. The group have released several EPs, including 2014's Real, via French electronic label Kitsuné before signing with Polydor Records and releasing their Take Shelter EP last August. The title track climbed to No. 1 on iTunes' UK Singles Electronic chart. In addition to being long-listed for the BBC Sound of 2015 Poll, the band were also short-listed for the BRITs Critics' Choice Award.
USA Today recently tapped Years & Years for its 2015 Artists to Watch list, noting that their hook-heavy sound "taps into '90s pop, house music, and R&B sensibilities that could quench the same thirst for U.K. dance that Disclosure and Clean Bandit filled stateside this summer."
In 2014, Years & Years enjoyed a run of successful performances at UK festivals, including Bestival, Latitude, and The Great Escape before playing coveted support slots with Clean Bandit and Sam Smith.
