Yale Partners With Avalere to Design Process to Craft Outcomes Measures for Medicare and Medicaid
WASHINGTON, Dec. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Avalere Health has been awarded a contract by Yale New Haven Health Services Corporation/Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (YNHHSC/CORE) to assist in the development of a road map to identify patient outcomes measures as mandated by the Accountable Care Act (ACA).
As part of the new health reform law, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is required to develop no fewer than 10 measures related to acute care within the next 18 months and 10 measures related to primary and preventive care within the next 30 months.
As part of this contract, Avalere will work with Yale to prepare a white paper to support CMS selection and proposal of measures. Avalere analysts will consider the:
- Landscape of existing quality outcomes measures, relative to primary care and preventive services, currently in use by public and private payers,
- Gaps in current measure development related to multiple co-morbid conditions and the integration across care settings,
- Methodological challenges often associated with data collection and public reporting of outcomes, and the
- Recommendations for measures by key experts, stakeholders and end-users.
"We are thrilled to work with Yale to assist CMS with identifying directions for outcomes measurement within an integrated healthcare delivery system. Improving the healthcare system is a core aspect of Avalere's mission, and we look forward to bringing the resources of our firm to bear on this important effort to improve the way care is delivered and paid for in the U.S.," said Kristi Mitchell, a vice president at Avalere Health.
