Yahoo! JAPAN Selects Raritan's Intelligent PDU
-- Raritan's locking outlets and quick customization capabilities were key decision factors --
SOMERSET, N.J., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan, a leading provider of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) and rack power distribution solutions, today announced that its intelligent rack PDU (power distribution unit) was selected to support the service infrastructure of Yahoo! JAPAN, operated by Yahoo Japan Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo).
Yahoo! JAPAN relies on a responsive IT infrastructure to support the company's growing businesses and various services on its website, which is visited by 55.8 billion* people monthly. Yahoo introduced the Raritan intelligent PDU to its service IT infrastructure to monitor real-time power consumption, so that decisions could be made quickly on where new servers and racks should be added to support expansion.
The company did a comprehensive evaluation of various vendors, including vendors of PDUs that Yahoo had previously deployed. Yahoo selected Raritan because the intelligent PDU (PX2-1000) met the company's requirements, and the solution could address their challenges quickly. One issue for Yahoo, for example, was the inadvertent disconnection of power cables loosened by vibration and exhaust heat in the back of server racks. Raritan's secure locking outlet for intelligent PDUs prevents unintentional power disconnects in racks.
Raritan's customization program enables customers to design intelligent rack PDUs to best meet their data center needs and power requirements. Customers can select PDU options in a number of categories — such as plug type, input cord length, outlet type and number of outlets, voltage, current, PDU color, and single-phase or three-phase configurations.
According to Yahoo! JAPAN, Raritan's intelligent PDU is helping to improve work and operations efficiency dramatically. By deploying Raritan's PDU, Yahoo can easily find power capacity to support server adds and changes, and data center operators can focus on operations without worrying about accidental cable disconnections.
PX2-1000 series features:
- Monitor voltage, current, power factor, apparent power (kVA), active power, and kWh units within the PDU.
- Monitor environmental conditions -- such as temperature and humidity -- airflow, pressure difference, and the rack status (open or closed) with sensors that plug into the intelligent PDU.
- Cascade (daisy chain) PDUs through the USB connections.
