Xyratex Enters an OEM Partnership With Pure Storage
HAVANT, England, March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Xyratex Ltd (NASDAQ: XRTX), a leading provider of data storage technology, today announced that Pure Storage has chosen Xyratex as a strategic OEM partner for its all-flash enterprise storage array, the FlashArray. Pure Storage selected the Xyratex OneStor™ Application Platform as the basis for its architecture, which leverages the unique benefits of flash memory, with inline de-duplication and compression to bring flash based solutions into the mainstream enterprise market. The agreement benefits Pure Storage customers by providing an enterprise quality platform solution that eliminates additional hardware costs, cabling and complexity of installation while minimizing footprint requirements.
Xyratex's OneStor™ Application Platform consolidates storage system infrastructure to minimize space and cost by combining compute, memory and server intelligence into a single enclosure. OneStor Application Platforms are ideal for the most demanding storage solutions and have the ability to scale-up (increased capacity) or scale-out (increased compute, I/O performance and capacity). Different solutions support different workload/application types, performance requirements, reducing hardware and serviceability costs.
"Enterprise customers are challenged to meet the mission-critical performance required in many of today's datacenters while staying within power and space budgets," said Jeff Janukowicz, Research Director of Solid State Storage, IDC. "All flash arrays, such as from Pure Storage, are well positioned to deliver on these metrics in a reliable, cost efficient manner and capitalize on the expected 45% CAGR revenue growth of enterprise solid state storage solutions."
The FlashArray from Pure Storage combines the performance, density and power of flash with enterprise storage array features including high availability, out-of-the-box compatibility and enterprise class scalability. The FlashArray delivers an exceptional cost to performance/efficiency ratio which makes it ideal for high performance workloads such as server virtualization, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) applications, database applications and cloud computing.
"The reputation and expertise Xyratex has in building quality enterprise storage solutions put them on a short list of OEM partners we evaluated, however, that combined with their common platform approach made them a clear choice because it allows us to deliver quality products to market at an accelerated pace," said Michael Cornwell, Director of Technology and Strategy at Pure Storage.
"Xyratex is excited to add Pure Storage as a strategic OEM partner," said Todd Gresham, Senior Vice President at Xyratex. "This relationship is aligned with our strategic initiative to partner with the leading companies in emerging markets. We look forward to working with Pure Storage on this exciting flash storage platform and building a successful partnership that delivers innovative quality storage solutions to this unique and fast growing market."
