XpressO-Ultra Oscillators from Fox Offer Improved Phase Noise and Reduced Jitter over Other Available Oscillators
New class of precision oscillators ideal for modern high-speed data transmissions
FORT MYERS, Fla., Oct. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fox Electronics, a leading global supplier of frequency control solutions and an IDT company, has released the next generation of XpressO technology, XpressO-Ultra.

The improved phase noise and reduced jitter of the new XpressO-Ultra Series enables the oscillators to be effectively used in a variety of modern high-speed data applications over an extended operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C. The new XpressO-Ultra improves the phase jitter (12 kHz to 20 MHz) to 250 fs typical compared to 750 fs typical of the traditional XpressO.
These configurable oscillators offer a combination of competitive pricing and improved performance not seen in other precision oscillators on the market. With orders available in only days for production runs, XpressO-Ultra oscillators aid designers in quickly getting their products designed and to market faster.
As an extension to Fox's breakthrough XpressO oscillator technology, XpressO-Ultra incorporates the same noise-reducing ASICs -- developed exclusively by Fox -- that offer the ability to select output type and supply voltage.
The first configuration released in the XpressO-Ultra series is a 3.3 V LVPECL version with stabilities of either +/-50 ppm or +/-100 ppm in a standard 5 mm x 3.2 mm package. These oscillators are ideal for data transmission applications with rigorous requirements such as 40 GbE and 100 GbE WAN/LANs, 16 Gb and 32 Gb fiber channel, 6 Gb/s and 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA storage and high speed OTNs.
Different versions of this new oscillator family are planned for the future, including alternate output types as well as various package sizes and voltages.
E.L. Fox, president of Fox Electronics, noted, "Today's growing high-speed data networks bring with them very precise timing demands. An oscillator with improved phase noise and jitter helps to provide a cleaner signal and better data synchronization in those applications with double-digit GbE requirements."
Fox continued, "Even with 30 million XpressO oscillators in the field, we saw a growing need for a class of oscillators that would meet these rigorous requirements today as well as in the future. XpressO-Ultra enables us to do that, while preserving the low cost, fast delivery benefits afforded by these uniquely configurable units."
Each XpressO-Ultra oscillator is assigned a unique serial ID that tracks every aspect of the manufacturing process as well as the source of raw materials used in the unit. It also provides information on electrical testing and any optimized electrical parameters based on customer specifications.
Pricing for an XpressO-Ultra oscillator is dependent upon configuration and quantity. Delivery is samples 3 to 5 days, production quantities one to two weeks ARO.
