Xpress Service from Freudenberg-NOK Quickly Delivers Made-to-Order Sealing Solutions to Customers
PLYMOUTH, Mich., May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- With Freudenberg Xpress, Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies (Freudenberg-NOK) is offering a unique service: machined seals from the original materials used in Freudenberg-NOK series production. The seals, that have the same material characteristics and life spans identical to the original Freudenberg-NOK series products, can be made-to-order individual parts intended as replacements, prototypes or cost-effective small production runs. The agenda is always: ordered, machined and quickly delivered.
In the chemical or pharmaceutical industries, mechanical and thermal characteristics are of the highest importance. Naturally, this also applies to machined seals. In the food industry, numerous approved materials from the "Xpress Service" are available to Freudenberg-NOK customers. All the seals from Freudenberg Xpress for the processing industry, from O-rings to complex molded parts, are machined from original Freudenberg-NOK premium materials and thus have unique characteristics and industry-specific approvals. Freudenberg Xpress offers highly resistant seals made of EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), polyurethane and Fluoroprene® XP to meet the specific requirements of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Thanks to specially developed production processes, the machined Freudenberg Xpress seals achieve the material properties of injection-molded or pressed original parts. For surfaces, Freudenberg Xpress sets extremely high quality standards with a maximum average roughness index Ra of 2.38 µm and a roughness depth of 13.7 µm. The special aspect: even as part of its rapid service, Freudenberg-NOK cuts off the seal edge even though this is a complex process from series production. In this way, the seals achieve a significantly longer life span, which is proven by benchmarking.
When does Freudenberg Xpress go into action? Most often it's when the job involves small ordered quantities that do not justify the manufacture of a series tool. Sometimes specific molded parts are needed for which series production tools are neither economical nor technically achievable. Customers often need functional models for the development of new equipment so they can test limit ranges or a quick replacement part to avoid costly machine downtime.. For the first time, Freudenberg Xpress makes a form of "rapid prototyping" economically possible for the sealing industry.
