Xojo, Inc. Announces Xojo Cloud For Easy and Secure Deployment of Web Applications; Works with Rackspace to Offer New Cloud Hosting Solution
Xojo and Xojo Cloud combined enable developers to easily create and rapidly deploy web applications with one-click, while taking advantage of built-in security measures, automatic backups and more.
AUSTIN, Texas, March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Xojo, Inc. announced today the immediate availability of their revolutionary new one-click cloud deployment solution for web applications, Xojo Cloud. Xojo Cloud is available for exclusive use with apps developed in Xojo, the multi-platform development environment. Once ready to deploy, developers click a button in Xojo that automatically connects to Xojo Cloud and launches their web browser with the application running. Deploying web applications has never been so easy!
Using traditional tools, developers have a lot of work to do when it comes time to deploy their applications. They need expertise in configuring a server, implementing security measures, scheduling backups and more, which can be very confusing. This oftentimes rules out the web as a target platform when the developer doesn't know much about deployment.
With Xojo Cloud, developers don't have to know anything about deploying a web app or configuring a server. Xojo Cloud abstracts them from all of the complicated details and processes, allowing them to focus on what makes their application unique.
Typically hosting services provide very little to no built-in security. When robust security is an option, it is usually a very expensive one. Xojo Cloud comes with industrial-strength security at no additional cost.
- Adaptive Firewall: Most firewalls simply allow you to turn ports on and off. Xojo Cloud has an adaptive firewall that dynamically monitors all traffic and attempts to tell the difference between your users and someone trying to break-in.
- Intrusion Detection: Xojo Cloud uses crowd-sourcing so other servers help protect yours. Should an intruder get past the firewall, the Intrusion Detection System watches for unusual activity and, if necessary, locks the intruder out. It then notifies other Xojo Cloud servers to protect them.
- File Change Detection: If the intruder somehow gets past these first two layers, Xojo can see what changes they have made. This allows Xojo to improve the firewall and intrusion detection and aids both parties in restoring from a backup.
- OS Protection: Xojo Cloud uses Security-Enhanced Linux to protect the OS itself from being hacked.
Unlike applications made with traditional web tools, Xojo web apps are compiled to machine code making it extraordinarily difficult to hack should a hacker somehow manage to get through the four layers of Xojo Cloud security.
To offer this great solution, Xojo has worked with Rackspace (NYSE: RAX), the open cloud company, which delivers hybrid cloud services to customers worldwide. With nine data centers across four continents, Rackspace is able to provide service to Xojo developers in different parts of the world.
"Xojo Cloud is Xojo doing what Xojo does best: take complicated tasks and make them simple," commented Xojo Founder and CEO Geoff Perlman. "Our goal was to make it so that anybody can deploy an app with zero configuration and a single click. Add to that industrial strength security and the reliability of our hosting provider, Rackspace, and you've got the best cloud solution on the planet."
"We're excited to be working with Xojo, as the Xojo Cloud is paving the way for many new applications to be developed by offering the ability for anyone to securely deploy a web application with just one click," said John Engates, CTO at Rackspace. "We look forward to ongoing collaboration with Xojo and helping developers to innovate faster in the cloud."
"I remember the problems I had setting up my own server; It's pretty cool to just click the cloud icon in Xojo and like magic your project is ready to go on the server," commented Mark Strickland of SimplyBASIC Software. "Beyond what Xojo already did the Xojo Cloud makes a complex process of setting up a server from scratch and loading a web app extraordinarily simple."
