XL Insurance Appoints David S. Hewett and William J. Mills, Jr. to Lead Surety Division

NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Group plc (NYSE: XL), today announced the appointments of David S. Hewett as Executive Vice President and William J. Mills, Jr. as Senior Vice President to lead its surety division.  Mr. Hewett and Mr. Mills report to Seraina Maag, XL Insurance's Chief Executive of the North America P&C Unit, in New York.  Both will be based in Baltimore, Maryland.  

According to Ms. Maag, "XL Insurance is building our presence and product offerings for clients who can benefit most from our industry knowledge, expertise underwriting complex risks, and our domestic and global capabilities. And the Construction industry is one sector where we are uniquely qualified to offer risk management assistance. That is why we recently launched a new Construction business to maximize the effective delivery of products and services to contractors."

Mr. Hewett joins XL Insurance from Zurich North America Insurance where he served as Executive Vice President, heading North American Domestic Surety.  Prior to his tenure at Zurich, Mr. Hewett was vice president with USI Holdings and has held underwriting positions with a United States Financial and Guaranty Company.  He is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. degree in Business and earned a Master's degree in Business with an emphasis in Finance from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.

Joining XL Insurance from Zurich's Contract Surety group, Mr. Mills brings more than 20 years of surety industry experience.  In addition to various senior management positions at Zurich Surety, he also held various management positions with St. Paul Surety Seaboard Surety.   Mr. Mills received his B.A. in economics from Drew University in Madison, NJ.
