XL Insurance Adds Space Underwriting Expertise to Global Aerospace Division

NEW YORK, March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Group plc (NYSE: XL), today announced an appointment in its Space Underwriting unit, adding Robert C. Schenone as Vice President and Senior Class Underwriter.  Mr. Schenone will be based in New York and report to Chris Kunstadter, Head of Space Underwriting.

Commenting about the appointment, Christopher O'Gwen, XL Insurance's Chief Underwriting Officer – Global Aerospace, said: "Underwriting space risks requires a unique skill set and knowledge -- the kind of extensive experience Rob has gathered over his 20-year career.  Rob brings a strong combination of both satellite and aviation insurance expertise and dual experience as both a broker and an underwriter.  He's a strong addition to our solid team of space experts."

Mr. Schenone joins XL Insurance from Sciemus Ltd, where he served as head of the company's Americas operation and lead satellite underwriter.  His career also includes positions with ACE in Bermuda as a satellite underwriter and more than 15 years with Marsh Inc. in both the US and Bermuda, most recently leading the broker's Space Projects division.  He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.
