XKL's DarkStar(TM) DRA Fiber Optic Amplification System on Display at NANOG 49 in San Francisco on June 14th
Compact, Fully Integrated, Energy-Efficient 1U In-Line Fiber Optic Network Amplifier Delivers Unsurpassed Low Latency Aimed at Businesses With Time-Sensitive Data Needs
KIRKLAND, Wash., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- XKL, LLC, a leading-edge provider of enterprise fiber optic networking equipment, announced today that the new DarkStar DRA amplification system will be on display at NANOG's "Beer & Gear" event on June 14th, 2010 in San Francisco. XKL is also a sponsor of NANOG 49.
The new DRA in-line amplification system optimizes existing fiber optics infrastructure by improving data throughput to create fast and reliable fiber optic networks for enterprise data transmission. This fully integrated, compact 1U sub system, located along the fiber, moves data with lower latency and cost than previous solutions. The low latency and cost savings delivered by XKL's DarkStar fiber optics amplification systems make for a high return on investment, particularly for businesses that rely on high speed data transfer to capitalize on market opportunities.
Recently, in a realistic test bed running 40 channels of 10Gb/s data, XKL achieved a one-way latency of just 6.071 milliseconds (fiber plus equipment latency) over 1231 kilometers of fiber – roughly the distance between Chicago and New York City. This test was done using the new XKL DRA systems with 1231 km of actual fiber.
"This milestone underscores my firm belief that our designs provide superior optical physics with an eye towards the complex modulation formats of the future. Transmission development will not stop at 100Gb/s," said Len Bosack, CEO of XKL and co-founder of Cisco Systems. "By leveraging the inherent, but often untapped, physics of fiber optic components, we can increase speeds with devices that use less power, less space and require less cooling."
XKL's DarkStar optical transport products are designed to allow enterprises with enormous data transmission needs to cost-effectively build private optical networks, giving an alternative to the traditional solution of using expensive carrier services. The benefits of this approach include higher reliability, reduced cost and power, and more control over IT resources.
