XJTLU: Ground-breaking Sino-British University celebrates 7th Anniversary
SUZHOU, China, Aug. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) celebrated its 7th anniversary on July 31, 2013 in the World Heritage city of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province, China, in recognition of its unique blend of high quality, research-led, international higher education.
The celebration not only showcased its past achievements but also the school's future aims. A number of high profile announcements were made about XJTLU's progression including the launch of the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at XJTLU, the creation of the XJTLU Graduate School, and the establishment of the Institute of Leadership & Education Advanced Development (ILEAD) jointly launched by XJTLU & NAEA (National Academy of Education Administration.
Taught solely in English by an international faculty to students from across the world, XJTLU provides students a chance to focus on an exciting range of scientific, business, and technological subjects in addition to the unprecedented opportunity to gain two undergraduate degrees upon graduation; one from XJTLU and another from the University of Liverpool (UoL), U.K. The university also awards UoL postgraduate degrees.
This pioneering education method has led to rapid growth since its establishment in 2006 and has seen its student population swell to almost 8,000 for the 2013/14 academic year. During their studies, students have the option to transfer to Liverpool for the final two years of their degree.
In the same week, XJTLU also celebrated its 4th Graduation Ceremony in which over 900 students were awarded dual-degrees with over 29 percent achieving First Class honors. 70 percent of this year's graduates have chosen to continue their studies in postgraduate courses at world-class universities across the globe such as Oxford, LSE, Yale, Delft University of Technology, and Hong Kong University.
Students who chose direct employment upon graduation have gone on to secure positions with top ranking enterprises such as IBM, 3M, L'Oreal, and Accenture in addition to other well-known transnational corporations and businesses.
During his speech at the graduation ceremony, XJTLU Executive President Professor Youmin Xi spoke of his pride in the graduates and how XJTLU has "nurtured our students, transforming them into global citizens with an international vision, ready and able to compete on the world's stage."
Vice Chancellor of UoL Professor Sir Howard Newby said to the students, "you are taking away with you from XJTLU a world class degree from a world class university," and added that "the success of the university and its students has surpasses our expectations." He assured the graduates that "your degree will literally be a passport for your success."
