Xilinx Wins Top Honors in 20th Annual EDN Innovation Awards
Spartan-6 LXT Named Innovation of the Year for Unique, State-of-the-Art Electronics in FPGAs
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx (Nasdaq: XLNX) today announced that the Spartan®-6 LXT family won top honors at the 20th Annual EDN Innovation Awards ceremony held this week during the Silicon Valley Embedded Systems Conference, where it was named Innovation of the Year for unique, state-of-the-art electronics in FPGAs.

Spartan-LXT devices are the first low-cost FPGAs fabricated on 45nm, and the only FPGAs in their class with high-speed serial transceivers and integrated endpoint blocks for PCI Express®. Spartan-6 LXT is part of the Spartan-6 domain-optimized FPGA family, and integrates ubiquitous connectivity standards for a broad set of cost-sensitive applications while delivering double the capability at less than 50 percent of the power. This enables system developers to meet demand for new features, while also reducing system costs by up to half for lower power, 'greener' products.
Spartan-6 was selected from among other finalists by EDN Magazine's worldwide audience of engineers and engineering managers, EDN's editorial advisory board and editorial staff. EDN Innovation winners will be featured in the publication's print and online editions on May 13.
"In today's fast-paced global market, technology is the key to accelerating change and provides both our company and our customers with the freedom to innovate," said Victor Peng, senior vice president of Programmable Platforms Development. "We are profoundly honored by this industry recognition and remain steadfastly dedicated to pushing through barriers to expand the benefits of programmability for all designers with each new FPGA generation."
About Spartan-6 FPGAs
Xilinx Spartan-6 LXT FPGAs provide an optimal balance of cost, power, and performance and, for the first time, bring low power and ubiquitous high-speed connectivity to price-sensitive, high-volume markets. Spartan-6 LXT FPGAs are the industry's lowest-risk and lowest-cost solution for serial connectivity, delivering up to eight 3.125Gbps GTP transceivers and an integrated core for PCI Express, both derived from proven Virtex®-6 FPGA technology.
Spartan-6 FPGAs include: up to 140k logic cells in a new 6-input LUT logic fabric, up to 4,800kbits of RAM, and up to 180 DSP48A1 slices; 3.125Gbps GTP low-power transceivers consuming less than150mW typ.; integrated PCI Express Endpoint blocks, providing PCI-SIG® rev. 1.1, Gen1 compliance; an integrated memory controller block that simplifies the implementation of high-bandwidth (up to 800Mbps) DDR2 and DDR3 memory interfaces; and additional power saving with hibernate power-down mode.
