Under terms of the agreement, Xi3 and Intermountain will work together at and through the Transformation Lab to develop and deploy new computer and server technologies designed to improve and optimize patient care throughout the Intermountain network of hospitals, clinics and care facilities. Additionally, both companies are hopeful that their joint efforts will lead to the deployment of new technologies at healthcare providers throughout the U.S. and abroad.
"Intermountain Healthcare is truly one of the world leaders in the industry's efforts to transform healthcare," said Jason A. Sullivan, Xi3's Founder, President and CEO. "We have been working with Intermountain for some time now on a number of different fronts, so we are very pleased to collaborate with them in the opening and launch of this innovative Healthcare Transformation Lab. I look forward to seeing what exciting new solutions we will come up with to help change the face of patient care."
An example of the collaborative work already underway between Xi3 and Intermountain is the research, design, and development of the Patient Room of the Future. Central to the Patient Room of the Future are advanced interactive technologies (including Xi3's X7A microSERV3R™), which will be used to improve medical outcomes and comfort levels for patients.
Deployed as a "near-edge server" within patient rooms, the X7A microSERV3R will provide access and control for (and support of) other patient room healthcare devices and systems, including those that wirelessly monitor of patient vital signs, such as heart rate, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, oxygenation level, respiration, and temperature. Slated for initial testing through a pilot program later this year, these Patient Rooms of the Future will also provide patients with personalized control of in-room lighting, sound, entertainment, and Internet access.
Healthcare Transformation Lab Overview
Located in Murray, Utah on the eastern side of Intermountain's 100-acre campus that houses its flagship Intermountain Medical Center, the 20,000-square-foot Transformation Lab serves as a state-of-the-art technology showcase for the healthcare industry, as well as a technology laboratory and workshop. Housed within its walls are the latest in computer, server, presentation and communications tools and systems, along with various machine shop systems and platforms capable of a variety of product development tasks ranging from CNC machining to 3D-printing.
Xi3 and Intermountain employees will utilize the Transformation Lab as a design and development facility where they and others will collaborate on researching, evaluating and creating new technology solutions for the healthcare marketplace. Once approved by both parties, the organizations will team-up on preparing these new products for real-world testing, manufacturing and deployment, starting at Intermountain Healthcare facilities in Utah and southeastern Idaho.
