XBRL US National Conference Features SEC Filer Best Practice Training & Tools, Plus IT Forum, September 15-17, Bellevue, Washington
NEW YORK, April 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- XBRL US announced today that it will hold two events this Fall in Bellevue, Washington, as part of its annual National Conference. A 2 ½ day conference, Current Developments in XBRL Financial Reporting for SEC filers, September 15-17, will focus on public company accounting professionals; the XBRL Data Forum, a one-day workshop to be held on September 16, 2014, will center on the use of XBRL-formatted data for IT professionals. Both programs will take place at the Hyatt Bellevue in Washington and will feature keynotes including Taylor Hawes, General Manager, Corporate Finance & Services at Microsoft.
Current Developments for SEC filers will cover recent changes in regulation and industry affecting corporate disclosure, and the latest techniques that public company filers can use to improve the quality of their XBRL data and leverage the availability of corporate financials in XBRL format. Sessions will concentrate on how SEC filers can manage problem areas in XBRL reporting such as handling specific disclosures, working with the more challenging financial statements, like OCI and shareholders equity, as well as effective use of the features of XBRL to best present their own financials. A second key area of focus at the conference is on how filers can leverage the new corporate financial data sources available, with case studies and reviews of corporate XBRL data tools, who uses them and how. Updates on Accounting Standards (ASUs) and on new XBRL Implementation Guides produced by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) will be covered to ensure SEC filers have the latest, most current information that will affect their XBRL creation process. CPE credit will be available for most sessions.
"With more than 3 years of historical corporate data in XBRL now available for thousands of public companies, we're seeing numerous new, inexpensive analytical tools on the market that serve up data on a virtually real-time basis," said Alfred Berkeley, Chairman, Principal Capital Management, and Chair, XBRL US Conference Advisory Committee, "At this conference, SEC filers will hear updates and new techniques on XBRL filing and they will also learn about tools they can use in their own analysis for financial planning and investor relations."
The XBRL Data Forum is a one-day workshop featuring technical sessions for project managers, developers, technologists, and IT professionals. Interactive sessions and discussion groups will feature demonstrations and presentations on techniques to handle XBRL data and databases, covering topics such as formula techniques, normalization, validation and analysis. To encourage SEC filers to learn more about the emerging importance and use of their data in analytics, XBRL Data Forum sessions will again be open to attendees of the Current Developments conference.
"The availability of free, accessible XBRL data has made it possible for emerging data and analysis providers like ours to innovate and thrive. The Data Forum provides the kind of networking opportunities and technical insights that spark ideas for new products and features," said Swaminathan, CEO, Iris Business Services Limited.
