Wyle's Aerospace Group Headquarters Honored as Firm of the Year in Southern Maryland
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The headquarters of Wyle's largest operating group, based in Lexington Park, Md., was honored as the Patuxent Partnership's Member Firm of the Year during the College of Southern Maryland's 11th Annual Leading Edge Awards last week.
The headquarters of Wyle's Aerospace Group was selected for the award after an extensive review process by the Patuxent Partnership, a non-profit member organization that fosters cooperation and collaboration among academia, private industry and government in Southern Maryland.
"Wyle ended up being the clear winner," said Gene McHugh, partnership board chair. The board considered 11 companies for this year's honor. All were asked to detail company business performance, employee culture and community involvement in a six-page narrative submitted to the partnership board in February.
Wyle's Aerospace Group business performance metrics of 10 percent growth and $100 million in sold contracts were considered, including notable contract wins such as instructor support for the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, F/A-18, E/A-18G and FMS program office support for the Naval Air Systems Command, and NAVAIR's Aviation Readiness and Resource Analysis Program Life Cycle Support.
Wyle's employee culture and community involvement were highlighted by employees' extensive support to local community organizations. This included company-sponsored efforts to assist organizations such as Christmas in April, St. Mary's Day of Caring, Maryland's Adopt-a-Highway Program, The American Red Cross and Wyle's employee directed community outreach committee "Wyle Cares" which contributed more than $11,000 to local charitable activities during 2010.
Wyle has more than 800 employees in Southern Maryland who serve NAVAIR, Naval Air Warfare Center – Aircraft Division, NAS Patuxent River, Md. and commercial customers.
"Our Patuxent River office in Lexington Park and Telemetry and Data Systems business unit in California, Md. are focused on service – providing trusted agent services to our customers, service to our co-workers and service to our community," said Pete Green, Wyle's Aerospace Group president, in his acceptance speech.
"When you make service your guiding principle everything else just naturally follows. This is the value that has shaped our company culture and what has helped us grow over the past 25-plus years in Southern Maryland. Our commitment to service is also what enabled us to experience 10 percent growth and have the ability to give back to our community in 2010."
The recognition is the second Leading Edge Award that Wyle has received in the past three years. The company also received the College of Southern Maryland's Foundation Partnership in Education Award at the Leading Edge Awards in 2009.
