Wyle Wins Contract to Support DOT with Environmental Research and Analysis of Transportation Systems
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyle has been awarded a multi-year task order contract valued up to $19.97 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation to support the growing needs of U.S. transportation agencies to develop tools and strategies for the environmental sustainability of transportation systems.
Under the contract, Wyle will support the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center with the Measurement, Modeling, and Assessment of Transportation's Environmental and Psychological Effects.
Potential tasks under this contract include technical support to comprehensive environmental tools such as the Aviation Environmental Design Tool, as well as technology development initiatives such as Green vehicle concepts and alternative fuels.
"This award is a testament to both a long legacy of achievement in this area by Wyle, and the forward-looking posture we have maintained towards a cleaner, greener and more efficient transportation system," said Jawad Rachami, director of operations of Wyle's Research and Consulting unit.
"We have a team of highly experienced individuals and organizations that are eager to press forward with innovative solutions to complex environmental issues involving the optimization and modernization of the U.S. transportation system."
Additional tasks could include Wyle providing technical expertise to the Volpe Center and its partner agencies to assess and mitigate the environmental and community effects of transportation operations and facilities as well as assisting with the characterization of soundscapes and visitor experience in National Parks.

The Volpe Center award is a key vehicle for the Department of Transportation to meet its environmental goals for a transportation system that is better integrated and more efficient in its operation. In addition to emerging DOT requirements for the implementation of NextGen modernization for aviation and the development of alternative fuels, this vehicle is also expected to address environmental issues in National Parks and the development of integrated approaches to environmental sustainability on a multimodal scale.
As new policy directions are adopted to meet national and global commitments on energy independence, climate change, and local environmental compatibility, Wyle and its team members are in position to assist the Volpe Center and U.S. DOT with rigorous analysis and state-of-the-art solutions.
"We are at the doorstep of a significant transformation in terms of both transportation technology and the way we address our impact on the environment," said Rachami. "The U.S. Government can count on Wyle to help usher in this new era of added complexity and interdependence with elastic creativity and intellectual vigor."
