Wyle to Provide Research, Development and Analysis for U.S. Coast Guard Command & Control Systems
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyle has been awarded a $1.5 million contract to perform integrated engineering and technical research, development and analysis for the Defense Technical Information Center in support of the U.S. Coast Guard's integrated Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) combat system.
Wyle's work, concentrated at the C4ISR office in Moorestown, N.J., will ensure new assets meet operational demands and develop a baseline for life cycle sustainment to ensure the Coast Guard can acquire new surface and aviation platforms while sustaining existing ones.
The award enables Wyle to provide engineering and technical analysis and expertise for specific program management requirements.
The integrated C4ISR combat system comprises command and control weapons, fire control, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems for ships. With its shipboard sensors that provide and display data and navigation equipment that delivers information about the ship's location, command and control equipment is used for both offensive and defensive capabilities.
"Wyle teams are extremely knowledgeable about command and control acquisitions, having previously analyzed and reported on them for the U.S. Coast Guard," said Denise Canter, Wyle's systems analysis and integration sector manager. "This award enables us to perform the next logical step of improving the effectiveness of the C4ISR systems."
Under a previous contract, Wyle analyzed ways to satisfy the Coast Guard's C4ISR systems mission requirements through technical and acquisition recommendations. The company's work included evaluating design concepts and specification requirements as well as reliability and maintainability data and developing metrics for design maturity.
The Coast Guard will use this as a basis to achieve a configuration baseline for the National Security Cutter, long and medium range surveillance systems, and future acquisition projects while leveraging the commonalities of existing platforms.
Wyle is a leading provider of high tech aerospace engineering and information technology services to the federal government on long-term outsourcing contracts. The company also provides test and evaluation of aircraft, weapon systems, networks, and other government assets; and other engineering services to the aerospace, defense, and nuclear power industries.
