Wyle Builds New Test Chamber at Its Huntsville, Ala. Operations
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyle 's Huntsville, Ala. operations have been recently updated with the construction of a new drive-in environmental test chamber designed to operate over a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions.
Types of test articles that Wyle can support in the chamber include Humvees, satellites, automobiles, energy equipment, bulldozers, missiles, and other military and commercial vehicles.
"We are very excited about the increased capabilities this new chamber brings to the Wyle test offerings," said Keith Wilson, vice president of Wyle Test and Engineering East. "This chamber allows us to test full military and commercial vehicles in a variety of environmental settings."
"Wyle now has the largest test chamber outside a government facility in the southeast United States. This will make it much easier for our customers to get one-stop-shop testing with quick turnaround on the services they require."
The environmental test chamber provides the capability to do combined, environmental testing. Technical specifications include:
- Temperature cycles from -60 degrees F to +160 degrees F.
- 20 to 95 percent humidity above 35 degrees F.
- Solar, humidity, icing, snow, and water spray environmental testing.
- Internal dimensions of 32' x 18' x 20' with a 12' x 14' vehicle access door to accommodate large products up to full size commercial and military vehicles.
Wyle's Huntsville facility has additional on-site test capabilities including dynamic, structural, acoustics and EMI/EMC to meet other test requirements, which provide an effective alternative to traditional in-house test operations for prime aerospace contractors. This saves time, allows for flexible scheduling, and saves customers from having to make large capital investments for test equipment.
Potential customers for this new chamber include aerospace and defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Tyonek to commercial industry leaders such as Southern Company, Maytag, General Electric, Mercedes Benz, and BMW.
With the addition of this new chamber, Wyle possesses state-of-the-art natural and induced environmental facilities complete with some of the largest climatic test chambers and vibration systems commercially available. Wyle specializes in unusual test or those with significant engineering content particularly for complete systems or large articles.
