The WXedge Academy is an educational exchange between high school science classes/clubs and the WXedge.com community. Teachers can offer a creative and challenging experience by asking the students to prepare articles, photos, videos and talks about scientific information for WXedge.com. The content on WXedge.com goes well beyond the forecast; from articles and photo galleries about bird and butterfly migratory routes to tutorials on what is behind astronomical events. WXedge Academy's first member class from Greenwich High School made its opening contribution explaining the physics behind super storm Sandy and just shared an article this month on the Geminids Meteor Showers.
Mark Higgins, Vice-President and General Manager of WTNH/WCTX, speaks about the WXedge Academy as an exciting opportunity for both students and the station. "The WXedge Academy is part of the natural evolution of News 8's 'voice of the people' style. By enriching and developing Connecticut's youth through an exciting approach to education, we are hoping to empower students from all corners of our state."
Teachers can apply to have their class/club join and once accepted start submitting content right away. They can submit as a class, smaller groups or individual students. Once the class has shown considerable dedication and knowledge they graduate to become WXedge Academy Expert Advisors. Expert Advisors enjoy WXedge Academy's badge of honor and can have their work, and possibly even themselves, featured on WXedge.com and WTNH NEWS 8.
The application for the WXedge Academy must be filled out by a teacher or a club advisor and can be found at WXEdge.com. The WXEdge Academy is open to students in all public and private schools in Connecticut.
