WTTW to Debut New Four-Part Series: Health Secrets: What Every Woman Should Know
A special program hosted by Paula Zahn and produced in partnership with Prentice Women's Hospital Premiering Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 pm on WTTW
CHICAGO, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- WTTW, Chicago's premier public television station, is pleased to announce the upcoming debut of a new and timely four-part series, Health Secrets: What Every Woman Should Know, taped recently before a studio audience at WTTW. Former CNN anchor Paula Zahn hosts these WTTW programs, which examine women's health issues and present the latest wellness and disease prevention strategies every woman should know. The series will air on WTTW on four consecutive Thursdays at 8:00 pm, beginning on January 21, 2010.
Each episode spotlights a distinct period in a woman's life, including what to do after a diagnosis. Participating in the program are American Heart Association spokesperson and actress Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) who discusses the early death of her mother from heart disease at age 53, comedienne Julia Sweeney (Saturday Night Live) who talks about her battle with cervical cancer, CBS Sunday Morning commentator Nancy Giles, and noted cancer authority Susan Love, M.D. (Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book) – plus many other medical experts who share their knowledge and offer advice.
WTTW incorporated instant feedback from the studio audience through the use of a hand-held wireless device called an i>clicker (www.iclicker.com), one of the most widely used audience response systems in higher education. It enabled audience members to anonymously participate in surveys during the taping of each segment.
The four episodes:
- Coming of Age: Teens and 20s (January 21) -- Body image, obesity, and the HPV vaccine.
- Turning Point: 30s and 40s (January 28) -- Starting a family, infertility, balancing family and work, stress management, and oncofertility.
- Feeling Good in Midlife (February 4) – Menopause/perimenopause, alternative choices to staying healthy, integrative medicine, and age-appropriate screenings.
- Taking Control of a Diagnosis (February 11) -- Disease prevention and the options available when dealing with heart attack, stroke or cancer diagnosis.
This wellness education initiative, Health Secrets: What Every Woman Should Know, is funded by a generous grant from the Alberto Culver Foundation. It is produced by WTTW/Chicago in association with Prentice Women's Hospital of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. For more information, visit www.wttw.com/healthsecrets.
