WRScompass Wins Geotechnical and Sediment Remediation Projects
TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- WRScompass announced today that it has been awarded two environmental remediation projects that include Geotechnical Applications and Sediment Removal in Florida and North Carolina.
Investigations conducted at the Site in North Carolina indicate that groundwater, soils and sediments at the Site contain volatile organic compounds including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) and poly –aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) at concentrations above the NC Site Remediation Goals (SRGs) as well as Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (NAPL) and MGP residuals.
Remediation consists of the performance-based In-Situ Solidification (ISS) of MGP-impacted materials located in the area of the MGP facility. Impacted soils located elsewhere on the site will be excavated and transported for treatment by ISS with other material on site. A cofferdam will be constructed in the river and impacted sediments will be dredged/excavated, dewatered and transported for treatment by ISS with the other material on site.
In Southeast Florida the Company will be remediating a Creosote Contaminated Site. Major components of the project consist of In-Situ Stabilization (ISS) and solidification of deep impacted soil within the Creek Area; excavation of surficial impacted soil; relocation of a community road to facilitate soil excavation; installation of a slurry wall that will be keyed into a low permeability clay; installation of a consolidation cap system; and installation of permanent stormwater management
A variety of geotechnical construction and sediment removal methods and mix designs are being utilized to meet the site specific requirements and specifications for each of these projects.
