WriteCheck Introduces Advanced Grammar Checking Service to Improve Student Writing
World leader in plagiarism prevention software adds ETS e-rater® technology to improve students' grammar, style, usage, mechanics and spelling
OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- iParadigms, creators of Turnitin®, iThenticate® and WriteCheck®, and the leader in originality checking and plagiarism prevention, today announced it has added grammar checking to its popular WriteCheck service, which allows students to check their written work for originality and proper citation. The new features provide students a comprehensive and advanced solution to pre-check written work for plagiarism, grammar, style, usage, mechanics and spelling before submitting work.
The new features are the result of a partnership with Educational Testing Service (ETS) that incorporates ETS e-rater scoring engine into the WriteCheck service. ETS e-rater engine is based on more than 10 years of linguistic and student writing research. The same technology complements human ratings of written assessments in standardized tests such as the TOEFL® and GRE®.
"WriteCheck's mission is to provide students with a simple, affordable writing coach to improve student learning and writing," said Chris Caren, president and CEO of iParadigms. "By incorporating ETS e-rater technology alongside our leading plagiarism checking service, students can rely on a service that is supported by two of the most proven technology providers in education."
A Simple, Fast, Affordable Writing Solution
Since its introduction in 2009, WriteCheck has checked nearly 350,000 student papers for plagiarism and accurate source citation, and is more than doubling in use each year. WriteCheck was designed to provide students with a simple, fast, affordable solution to improve writing. After signing up for the service, students can purchase credits and submit papers to WriteCheck.
Within seconds, students receive a report that shows how much of their paper matched content in the Turnitin database along with how many errors the e-rater engine found in the paper. Students can view the original format of their paper and see what material is unoriginal and errors that have been discovered by the e-rater engine. "WriteCheck has been a very useful tool. It has helped me become a better writer and get better grades," said Amy Sawyer, student at Oklahoma State University.
Unlike other services, students are not required to subscribe to the service. Instead, they can buy as many submissions as they please starting at $4.95 per paper. Moreover, students have peace of mind knowing that the service is powered by the Turnitin technology that is trusted by educators worldwide. Finally, unlike many services which resell or redistribute student papers, WriteCheck does not redistribute papers under any circumstance.
