Wowza® Delivers Accelerated Streaming Performance with Intel® Media SDK 2013 for Servers
New Integration Includes Intel Quick Sync Video Hardware Acceleration to Enhance Performance of Wowza Transcoder AddOn on both Windows® and Linux®
EVERGREEN, Colo., Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Streaming Media West -- Wowza® Media Systems, LLC, provider of Simply Powerful Streaming™ media server software today announced it is integrating the new Intel® Media SDK 2013 for Servers with Wowza Transcoder AddOn to deliver accelerated transcoding performance. Wowza announced the new integration today at Streaming Media West, one of the world's premiere streaming media events, happening now through Wednesday in Huntington Beach, California.
Intel Media SDK 2013 for Servers, which debuted in beta form at the NAB Show® in April, now optimizes data center and embedded media applications to utilize Intel HD graphics hardware acceleration on both Windows® and Linux® operating systems. Wowza Transcoder AddOn, which adds transcoding and transrating features to Wowza Media Server®, supported previous versions of the Intel Media SDK for Clients using the Windows operating system, and now brings the power of Intel Media SDK hardware acceleration to Linux servers.
"This new integration with Intel Media SDK 2013 gives our customers the ability to achieve significantly improved performance with Wowza on their chosen platform, whether it is Linux or Windows," said Wowza CTO and co-founder Charlie Good. "We've designed Wowza Media Server to be the most flexible, scalable streaming solution on the market, and collaborating with Intel to immediately support its next-generation processing technology enables us to deliver the ever-improving superior performance and efficiency our customers have come to expect."
Integrating with the Intel Media SDK 2013 for Servers and accessing hardware acceleration using Intel® Graphics, Wowza Transcoder AddOn helps provide exceptional performance enhancements. Customers can now leverage Intel's powerful, graphics-enhanced Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 v3 product family with Intel® HD Graphics P4700, formerly codenamed "Haswell," which provide dedicated media processing of intensive workloads for both the Linux and Windows server operating systems.
The combined solution delivers a number of benefits for users, including:
- Maximum performance and return on investment with higher quality video streams and higher transcoding density per computer.
- Lower hardware and energy costs for transcoding live streams via more efficient hardware utilization, fewer computers required to transcode the same number of streams, no separate GPU cards required and a reduced power draw for superior energy efficiency.
- Reduced operating system management costs through the ability to deploy your preferred operating systems for both on-premises and in-the-cloud deployments.
"The seamless integration and collaboration between the Intel Media SDK 2013 for Servers with Wowza Media Server software is in direct response to the considerable demand for hardware acceleration of video applications in the cloud," said Jason Waxman, vice president, Data Center Group and Cloud Platform Group general manager at Intel. "Intel looks forward to seeing visually stunning results built upon industry-leading streaming density on Intel Xeon server platforms."
