Woven Expands Editorial and Original Programming Capabilities: Acquires Leading Men's News & Entertainment Destination, UPROXX
Bolsters Executive Team, Names SGN and Myspace Co-Founder Colin Digiaro, President
LOS ANGELES, April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Woven, today announced it has acquired men's news and entertainment destination, UPROXX. The acquisition will further enable Woven to build on its leadership position as the premier advertising and content platform targeted to the 18 to 34 years-old male. Woven also announced the appointment of Colin Digiaro as President. In this newly created role, Digiaro will be responsible for overseeing growth, strategy, and corporate development. Digiaro joins having previously served on the Woven Board of Directors.
Founded by seasoned entrepreneurs Jarret Myer and Brian Brater in 2008, UPROXX is a discussion driven entertainment news site and one of the largest destinations on the web for the young male consumer. Through its extensive network of journalists, UPROXX covers the culture of what's buzzing and delivers the best of web culture, film, TV, music, technology, and sports news on the internet. It is also a top destination for celebrities and content creators to engage in live community Q&A discussions to share their latest projects, films and TV shows with the UPROXX community. UPROXX produces original video through their partnership with 5-Second Films for UPROXX Video.
"UPROXX offers a mixture of cutting edge editorial and video content with a loyal user base making it a perfect complement to Woven's business. Additionally, UPROXX drastically expands Woven's editorial content and original programming capabilities, thus further solidifying our market leadership," said Scott Grimes, CEO of Woven. "For our advertiser partners, this is a great opportunity to reach a highly engaged male audience on one of the most culturally relevant sites. We're thrilled to welcome UPROXX to the Woven family."
"UPROXX creates community and discussion around the most relevant topics and brands for our primarily male audience, making Woven a perfect home for us," said Myer, co-founder and CEO of UPROXX. "By joining Woven, we will be able to greatly expand our capabilities and leverage the Woven platform's massive scale."
In addition to the UPROXX acquisition, Woven is further bolstering its executive team by appointing Colin Digiaro as President. Digiaro has spent the majority of his career helping launch and scale Internet businesses. He previously co-founded and served as COO of Social Gaming Network (SGN), one of the largest mobile game developers.
"Colin is a seasoned and highly respected executive with a track record of building digital media companies," said Grimes. "He has been an invaluable advisor to the company in the past as a Board member and in his new role as President, his expertise will allow us to fuel our growth and capitalize on our scale in this fast growing marketplace."
"Woven's understanding of digital media and developing authentic content for the increasingly hard to reach connected male positions us in a very unique way," said Digiaro. "Our ability to reach a focused audience, which is becoming increasingly difficult to do on TV, has enabled us to become a digital gatekeeper to this demographic. I look forward to working with Scott and the entire team to continue to build the Woven business."
Prior to joining SGN, Digiaro served as the President of Slingshot Labs Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of NewsCorp Inc. responsible for building and launching digital assets. He joined NewsCorp through the acquisition of Myspace, which he co-founded. While at Myspace he led the Sales organization generating over $700 million in annualized revenues.
