Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) to Be Recognized at BGC Partners 6th Annual Charity Day
-September 11 Wall Street fundraiser to benefit wounded-
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of BGC's sixth annual Charity Day taking place on Monday, September 13, 2010, Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), along with twenty other charities, will receive donations and recognition from a host of celebrities. BGC was formed by Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial firm which suffered the loss of over 600 employees on 9/11, as it rebuilt following the attacks. On the anniversary of this tragedy, BGC donates all the day's trading proceeds to selected charities around the world.
The celebrity guest list includes Matthew Modine, Tony Sirico, and Rita Cosby, all of whom are strong supporters of Wounded Warrior Project and our nation's wounded service men and women.
"Wounded Warrior Project believes the greatest casualty is being forgotten," stated Wounded Warrior Project Executive Director Steve Nardizzi. "Many of this generation of wounded joined our nation's armed forces shortly after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, so we are grateful to BGC for continuing to recognize their commitment and sacrifice for this country."
Guests will conduct real trades on BGC's Wall Street trading floor (alongside a licensed broker), with its institutional clients. All of the revenue raised will be given to charity.
The event is taking place in Manhattan at One Seaport Plaza, 199 Water Street, 19th Floor. Guests will begin arriving at 7 a.m., with events running through to 4 p.m. Last year's event raised over $10 million in a single day for worthy causes.
Mark Webster, Executive Managing Director and General Manager, The Americas commented: "The Wounded Warrior Project has once again been selected as one of the charities to be honored on BGC's Charity Day in recognition of the unremitting and invaluable work that they carry out to support our wounded veterans. WWP is enhancing the lives of those who have made such vital sacrifices on our behalf."
