Wounded Warrior Project Executive Director Named One of the 'Top 50' Executives for 2010
Non-Profit Times Power & Influence annual listing selects the most influential executives in the sector
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wounded Warrior Project Executive Director Steven Nardizzi has been named one of the top 50 most influential executives in the non-profit sector by the latest issue of The Non-Profit Times. Over 250 nominees were reviewed and the group selected represents the industry's top thinkers, technology leaders and innovative minds.
"It is truly an honor to be listed amongst such a prestigious group of people who have dedicated their lives to charity and giving back," said Nardizzi. "I am equally honored to lead the amazing team of people at Wounded Warrior Project who, in the short seven years since our founding, have redefined the way our nation cares for wounded warriors and their families. This award recognizes their tireless and selfless efforts to develop and implement unique programs, services, and policy initiatives that will have a long-term impact on the collective healing of this generation of veterans."
Wounded Warrior Project and Nardizzi were influential in the drafting and passing of two crucial pieces of legislation to protect and support veterans injured during the current conflicts. The "Traumatic Injury Servicemen's Group Life Insurance Benefit" bill was enacted in 2005 and has since paid more than $470 million in benefits to wounded warriors. The "Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act" was signed into law in May 2010 and requires the Department of Veterans Affairs provide family caregivers of the most severely injured veterans with help in meeting some of their own basic needs – including training and technical support, respite care, counseling, health coverage, and modest financial support.
"At WWP, we have worked to create a culture of innovation and integrity in the service we provide to veterans," said Nardizzi. "With warriors still struggling with reintegration years after injury and recent increases in newly wounded warriors returning home from Afghanistan, our mission of honoring and empowering wounded warriors is as relevant today as ever before. We remain committed to our vision of fostering the most successful and well-adjusted generation of veterans in our nation's history and providing them with the tools to not just survive their injuries but to thrive and achieve personal and professional success."
