JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wounded Warrior Project congratulates one of its founders, Heath Calhoun, on his selection to compete in the 2010 Paralympics, which begin in Vancouver today.
"Wounded Warrior Project's mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors so seeing Heath's incredible accomplishment fills us with pride and instills hope for other wounded warriors during their healing and recovery," stated Wounded Warrior Project Executive Director Steven Nardizzi. "Heath is a courageous warrior and we'll be rooting for him in Vancouver."
Born in Bristol, Tennessee, Calhoun enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1999 and completed his infantry, Airborne and Ranger training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was then deployed to Iraq where his convoy was attacked and hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. The injuries he sustained ultimately resulted in the loss of both legs above the knees. Just five months after he was injured he attended a sports clinic in Aspen, Colorado where he attempted snow skiing. He was "hooked" since that first time and dedicated himself to the sport.
In addition to his training for the Paralympics, Heath is an advocate for other wounded warriors and an active member of the Wounded Warrior Project. He and his wife Tiffany have three children, Mason, Brystal and Bailee.
