Worldwide Growth in Stevia Products & Natural Sweeteners Leads to Acquisitions, New Patents and Multi-Million Dollar Purchase Orders
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida, May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Globally Companies are becoming more entrenched into the stevia sweetener market implementing new advancements for applications as a no-calorie, high-intensity sweetener in packaged food and drinks. As regulatory approvals unlock opportunities, increased demand has stevia suppliers focus on how to improve stevia to taste better, easier to formulate with, more sustainable, and scalable to supply. Companies in focus today are: Sunwin Stevia International, Inc. (OTC: SUWN, "Sunwin Stevia"), Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM), Stevia Corp. (OTC: STEV), Stevia First Corp. (OTC: STVF) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ)
Sunwin Stevia International, Inc. (OTCQB: SUWN, "Sunwin Stevia"), one of the top global providers of high quality stevia extracts including Rebaudioside A 98 and Rebaudioside A 99, announced today that it has submitted a patent application for its enzyme-treated stevia products. For years stevia usage has not been widely accepted as a natural sweetener, because it has a bitter, licorice-like aftertaste even with high-grade stevia such as Rebaudioside A 98 and Rebaudioside A 99. To resolve the issue, Sunwin Stevia has been working with scientists to develop enzyme-treated stevia for years. The enzyme-treated stevia product is obtained by addition of glucose to stevia extracts using α-glucosyltransferase. In addition, a special treat stevia seed is required to grow special stevia leaf for such advanced product. This new method can effectively decrease or eliminate the bitter aftertaste of natural stevia. Sunwin Stevia is the only company in the world that offers such advanced products on a commercial basis.

Sunwin announced yesterday that it has received a major purchase order of 40 metric tons enzyme-treated stevia products valued over US$3.2 million for the calendar year of 2015 by Wild Flavors, Inc. Enzyme-treated stevia is the most advanced stevioside product in the world and is used in the food and beverage industries. Stevia is a natural sweetener; however, it has a bitter, licorice-like aftertaste. Enzyme treated stevia is obtained by addition of glucose to stevia extracts using α-glucosyltransferase. In addition, a special treat stevia seed is required to grow special stevia leaf for such advanced product. This new method can effectively decrease or eliminate the bitter aftertaste of natural stevia. Sunwin Stevia is the only company in the world that offers such advanced products on a commercial basis.
Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) announced recently that it has reached an agreement to purchase Meiweiyuan Biotechnology Co., a privately held sweetener manufacturer near the city of Wuhan, in the central Chinese province of Hubei. "This acquisition helps further expand our footprint in regions with growing demand for our products," said Chris Cuddy, president of ADM's Corn Processing business. "Last November, we were excited to begin production at our new sweetener facility in Tianjin, which is allowing us to serve major customers in the northern part of the country as well as Asian export markets. Now, we are expanding to better meet demand for starches and sweeteners from customers in central and western China. This is another example of how ADM is looking for-and seizing-great opportunities for profitable growth."
Archer Daniels Midland Co. announced its biggest acquisition ever back in 2014, saying it agreed to buy Swiss food-ingredients maker Wild Flavors GmbH for $3 billion and in May of this year, ADM became a 20% shareholder of Sunwin Stevia International, Inc as evidenced in this filing http://www.otcmarkets.com/edgar/GetFilingHtml?FilingID=10245356
