PLANO, Texas, Aug. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Plano-based WorldVentures reaffirms its promise to 'create joy' by providing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County several different types of support so that their youth members may continue to learn, play, and flourish in a safe and inspiring environment.
On Friday, Aug. 12, WorldVentures gifted a new DreamCourt basketball court to the Plano Boys & Girls Club. DreamCourts are top-quality, multipurpose play spaces built in collaboration with WorldVentures Foundation, Nancy Lieberman Charities, and NexCourt® Sport Court®, with the goal of providing children in underprivileged communities a safe area to play basketball, interact socially, and learn important lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship. The Plano DreamCourt is the 28th court installed to date in communities across the country.
E. Michael "Mike" Simpson, Chief Executive Officer Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County served as the emcee for the DreamCourt dedication and opened by talking about how the new court will help support Boys & Girls Clubs' Triple Play and Healthy Habits youth health and wellness programs.
Plano Mayor Pro Tem Lissa Smith spoke to the kids in attendance, "It's special that you are all here. This court is state-of-the-art and will be a great place for you to practice and play."
The Plano facility is unique in that it serves as a combination community center and Boys & Girls Club with an average daily attendance of 300 youth per day. And it is open until 9:00 p.m. each night, and on the weekends, year round.
Plano City Manager Bruce Glasscock offered his appreciation to the partnership between the city and the Boys & Girls Club and encouraged the kids to "use this court to create your own dreams."
Chief of Police Gregory Rushin, after introducing members of the Plano police department in attendance, spoke from the heart, "My two sons were members of the Boys and Girls Club growing up, and basketball was really important to them. I've seen first-hand the valuable life lessons kids learn from the sport: How to be a good winner, how to be a good loser, and how to have fun."
Founder and Chief Visionary Officer Wayne Nugent, who gifted the court to the club and the city on behalf of WorldVentures, headquartered in Plano, thanked the community for graciously accepting the gift. "This is a special court, and it's so energizing to all of us here from WorldVentures to have this in our own backyard."
Gwyneth Lloyd, Executive Director WorldVentures Foundation echoed Nugent's sentiment, "The children here represent the future of Plano, the future of Texas, and the future of the planet."
During the dedication, Nancy Lieberman Charities Founder, Basketball Hall-of-Famer, two-time Olympian and NBA Sacramento Kings Assistant Coach Nancy Lieberman encouraged everyone in attendance to "lead with love, lead with kindness, lead with integrity." Lieberman broke down gender and cultural barriers at the young age of 11 when she first started playing basketball at Rucker Park in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. She recognized each of the Plano police officers and Dallas detectives in the audience and encouraged them to keep basketballs in their cars and create opportunities to play with kids around the city.
She then officially opened the court by sinking her signature half-court backwards shot…nothing but net.
Following the DreamCourt dedication, WorldVentures employees volunteered at a Field Day, complete with games and food, to celebrate the end of summer. In keeping with the WorldVentures core value, Care and Contribute, employees are allowed one paid day per year to volunteer for the charity of their choice. Many chose this event as their opportunity to give back.
As a national partner of Boys & Girls Clubs of America WorldVentures Foundation supports the organization on both the national level by opening DreamCourts at clubs across the country, and at the local level in Plano and in Greenville, South Carolina, with events such as a school supply drive and holiday toy drive.
The company also recently announced its partnership with linebacker Sean Lee and the Dreambuilders Foundation as the presenting sponsor and a corporate sponsor on the "Sacks for Kids" campaign to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County.
Beginning July 28 through the 2016–2017 National Football League season, fans may pledge any dollar amount per any sack the Dallas Cowboys defense has. At the end of each game, pledges turn into actual monetary donations that directly benefit the clubs and their programs. 100 percent of the funds raised will be paid out to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County. Anyone can pledge at any time during the regular season at http://www.bgccc.org/sacks/. Updates may be followed on Facebook and Twitter, #SeanLee and #SacksForKids.
"We are honored that WorldVentures has selected the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County for these projects," said Mike Simpson, in closing. "Having the team of WorldVentures Foundation, Nancy Lieberman Charities, and DreamCourt providing the new court and WorldVentures partnering with Sean Lee and Dreambuilders Foundation on the "Sacks for Kids" campaign, impacts the lives of thousands of our children in this fast growing area."
