World's Premier Funnel Slide launches at Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas on May 24
LAS VEGAS, May 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tornado has touched down at Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas, joining Nevada's premier water park's more than 25 slides and attractions for its second season. While the park opened in April, the zero gravity experience debuts Saturday.
Exclusive in Nevada, the four-person raft attraction catapults riders from 36 feet in the air through a 110-foot tunnel before dropping them into the 45-foot-wide funnel, spinning them back and forth through swirling water before plummeting into the eye of the storm. As the raft sweeps up the Tornado wall crossing its centerline, guests experience weightlessness or zero gravity. With their raft almost vertical, riders report feeling they are about to tip over, but the curved funnel wall keeps them safe. After several oscillations, they descend through the exit tunnel.
Developed by industry leader ProSlide Technology, the innovation and ride performance of its TORNADO has been recognized with many Best Water Ride honors.
"We were so happy to open the park in April, providing a longer season for guests; but I'm even more excited and thankful our construction partners have met our commitment to launch our new ride on time giving visitors a new way to enjoy outdoor water park fun, particularly with such an acclaimed slide as the Tornado," said Takuya Ohki, Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas general manager. "The Tornado's true funnel shape is patented by ProSlide and can't be replicated. It's the physics of the funnel shape that create an unparalleled experience for riders. With the addition of the Tornado and the other improvements we've added at the park this year, we expect another phenomenal season."
Special activities celebrating Saturday's Tornado launch include Tornado Twister games on a giant inflatable Twister board to benefit Opportunity Village. The not-for-profit organization serves people in Southern Nevada with significant intellectual disabilities to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
Park improvements include extended operating hours; more parking, shade, seating and special events; warmer water in the kid's area; and a third affordable season pass. Three options offer discounted pricing when buying four or more of the same pass.
