World's Largest Hospital for Small Animals Selects Equashield's Closed Chemotherapy Safety System
The Animal Medical Center Select's Equashield to Minimize Hazardous Drug Exposure for Staff and Patients
NEW YORK and PORT WASHINGTON, New York, March 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Equashield (http://www.equashield.com), the leading provider of Closed System Transfer Devices (CSTDs) for hazardous drugs, and The Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York City (http://www.amcny.org), one of the leading academic veterinary hospitals in the United States, announced today that Equashield's solutions have been selected to reduce the The AMC staff's exposure to hazardous drugs.
The AMC previously used a competing CSTD product. The hospital decided to make the switch following a successful two month trial of Equashield's medical devices.
"While we fully understand the importance of closed systems, our previous solution was cumbersome to use," said Dr. Richard Goldstein, CMO of The Animal Medical Center. "We were pleased to find that Equashield's self-contained device can be connected in just one single motion, creating a safer method for transfer of chemotherapy drugs. Since Equashield's devices are also competitively priced, the change has contributed to cost savings."
Equashield's CSTD for veterinary use consists of a small syringe, as well as luer lock connector pieces and vial adaptors for the safe handling and transfer of hazardous drugs, such as those used in chemotherapy. The proprietary design prevents plunger contamination, a major route of exposure to hazardous drugs, and features dry-connections to ensure that no hazardous materials escape at any point in the transfer process.
"We are pleased that The AMC, one of the world's most prestigious veterinary teaching institutions, has placed its confidence in our closed systems." said Ricky Thackray, sales manager at Equashield. "We are dedicated to providing the safest, most intuitive closed systems on the market, helping to protect veterinarians who provide life-saving care for pets undergoing chemotherapy."
