SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Giant Quacky, built in Detroit by folks from Arizona, hatched in Cincinnati, is now on the move.
"We, at GAME, created Giant Quacky to travel to locations holding record-setting Derby Duck Races. Cincinnati is our largest Derby Duck Race so it was a natural choice," Eric Schechter, President and CEO of Great American Merchandise and Entertainment (GAME) said.
On September 1, 2013, Cincinnati's Freestore Foodbank concluded their 19th annual Rubber Duck Regatta that dropped over 155,000 ducks and raised nearly $1MM (net was raised for the food bank). There are over 25 Derby Duck races scheduled for 2013 and over 100 scheduled for 2014.
"Our goal is that Giant Quacky will not only increase awareness about the charity but most importantly increase duck adoptions. Money raised from adopted ducks go directly to the cause," Schechter said.
Schechter, an Arizona businessman, has been involved with international events for nearly 25 years. He held the first Derby Duck race in Scottsdale, Arizona and shortly thereafter began expanding his creative fundraising concept throughout various communities across the United States, eventually taking his concept international.
"Eric is a visionary who foresaw the challenges that philanthropy would confront years before others realized the need. We have embraced his method and are better for having done so," said Bruce Skinner, Executive Director of Olympic Medical Foundation, Port Angeles, Washington.
The GAME team works with organizations and provides ongoing support. Giant Quacky has embarked on a world journey and is en route to Dayton, Ohio where he will support the Derby Duck race being held to raise money for United Rehabilitation Services.
